Surfing chaos and complexity leadership adventure | diverse
Surfing chaos and complexity is a unique programme using surfing to help leaders explore physiological, mental and emotional responses to unknown and uncontrollable environments. Uniting Alexander Lowen’s bioenergetics, the discoveries of Elizabeth’s Phd and further research, Margaret Wheatley’s living system theory and the actual practice of surfing, leaders engage in a three day programme based around key elements of the surfing, including assessing inner and outer conditions, becoming aware of physical patterns in response to being out of control, tuning into a deeper inner core, accepting instruction and embracing community and rest.
The programme has been historically hosted in a large luxury home in Polzeath, Cornwall, a perfect beginners’ surfing beach, in partnership with Surfs Up, a local surf school. The experience includes home cooking from the community host, leadership tuition from Elizabeth and all equipment and lessons for surfing.
This programme is currently available on a group basis.
It is deep, refreshing, invigorating, confronting and transformative. Leaders have reported seismic shifts in their leadership capacity, including greater inner stability, emotional capacity, patience, and resourcefulness in engaging with complex work environments including organisational politics. Other more personal areas have also been strengthened including more refined life skills and resilience in the face of personal life challenges such as divorce, redundancy, role changes and vulnerabilities in mental health.
The programme is simultaneously challenging, nurturing and beautiful, and the combination of these elements enables the experience to touch deeper areas of the heart, mind and body than purely classroom-based events can achieve.
This programme is suited to leaders who are ready for confrontation and to be in places of vulnerability. It is not suited to leaders who are in particularly sensitive seasons such as bereavement or mental health crises, or who are not recommended to take part by their GP due to physical ill health.
We would value being able to explore any requirements to enable this programme to be accessible to those who would like to join us.
